Instagram: Who to Follow

Hi! Caroline here. I know recruitment can seem chaotic, and for those of you that are adjusting to life in a new city, it can feel impossible to keep up with everything that’s happening on social media. To make life simpler, I’ve compiled a list of accounts that will keep you involved with events both inside of Texas ZTA and university-wide!

@texaszta
Welcome to the University of Texas Zeta Tau Alpha chapter’s very own Instagram page! You’ll find that @texaszta is full of shout-outs to outstanding members, pictures from abroad, and recognition for academic performance (including our special 4.0 dinner). That’s not all! The @texaszta Instagram also provides a way for us to reach UT students interested in sorority recruitment, to display our members’ achievements, and to connect and communicate with other ZTA chapters across the nation. Follow @texaszta to stay in the loop as recruitment approaches! You can also search through the tagged photos to see other Zetas’ Instagram accounts.

First thing’s first: Food!
@fatandhappy.atx
Created by two of our very own PC’16 Zetas (@jantonio and @caitycallan), this foodstagram keeps your feed filled with treats and eats found around Austin. This account makes it easy to find the hot food spots in Austin without having to consult Yelp. Impress your new roommates with knowledge about these places to grab a bite.
@juliet_ate_romeo
This incredible account was developed by PC’11 Zeta alumna Juliet Mullins. With over 21,000 followers, this delicious Instagram helped Juliet score a job as a program manager for UberEats. Now her delicious uploads come from all over, including the Middle East and Amsterdam. No worries though, Austin is the main focus of this foodie page!

Going abroad? Count me in!
@melrice16 @melissa_rudd @whitweiss @julia15jem @laurenhaley_9
Melanie Rice, Melissa Rudd, Whitney Weiss, Julia McKnight, and Lauren Haley are all headed to spend the summer in Barcelona, Spain to complete classes and learn about the culture.. Talk about smart cookies! Not only will they be taking classes in Barcelona, but they’ll be able to practice their language skills and learn about life in Spain.
@caitycallan
Caity is spending her summer in LA where she has two internships -- one in casting for Fox and another in creative development for Skydance. (Yes, they made Star Trek, Mission Impossible, and World War Z). Follow her to see all that she accomplishes this summer in California!
@sab_march
PC’17 Sabrina March is spending her summer in London working as a legal intern for a software company. Follow her to keep up with her life as a working woman in Europe.

UT Athletics!
@texaslonghorns @texasfootball @anniesquier @jbo97 @tinaburke7 @wendilayne @jaydalallana @madisitter1 @paigelorenn @anneliese.parsons @lexihinnenkamp @courtney_sorelle @tori.vill
For all things UT sports, don’t forget to give @texaslonghorns a follow to stay updated. In addition, several Texas Zetas are on UT’s pom and cheer squad, including our Recruitment Captain, @anniesquier and Texas Pom and Cheer Co-Captains, @jbo97 and @paigelorenn! Let’s go ladies! Don’t forget to buy your Big Ticket so that you’ll never have to miss a Texas sporting event.
@utaustintx is important too, keep up with events happening all around campus.

Out of State? So are they!
From Florida, Daniela Perez @danieperezz (middle) is a Venezuelan who found her home as a Texas Zeta. As a major in journalism, Dani is fighting to bring a voice back to the people of Venezuela. Next to Dani is Syndey Mcilvan @sydneymcilvain (left), an LA native who is learning to love the Texas tradition!
From Tennessee, PC’15 Alex Carter @president_carterrrr is one of a kind; always documenting her adventures in around Austin. PC’16 member, Whitney Weiss @whitweiss, is one of our Atlanta girls - and such a fun insta to follow!

Last but not least: recruitment!
@texaspanhellenic @anniesquier @devo_
With fall recruitment on the horizon, it’s a good idea to follow @texaspanhellenic to get an inside look at how Texas sororities prepare for their new members. Make sure to follow our Recruitment Captain, Annie Squier @anniesquier, to keep up with her adventures in Austin this summer, and our President, Devon Forsyth @devo_, to learn more about what makes her a great leader, and what she does outside of ZTA.

I hope this guide will provide you with some familiar faces (and some great food) that makes campus seem a bit smaller as the school year begins. Happy creeping!

ZLAM,
Caroline Cantrell

I love having the opportunity to showcase the girls in Texas Zeta & provide potential new members with a glimpse of who we are & the personality of our chapter.
Any tips for Recruitment?
My #1 piece of advice would be to have fun!!! Although Recruitment can be overwhelming at times, it is such an exciting experience that you will never forget! Relax, smile, be yourself, & get ready to meet your future best friends!
Why did you #GOTEXASZETA?
As soon as I stepped foot in the Zeta house during recruitment, I knew I was home. I immediately fell for Zeta when I was welcomed with lots of hugs & so much love. After two years of being a Zeta, I still feel the same way. It is a blessing to be able to call such amazing, strong, and beautiful girls my sisters. I can thank Zeta for bringing me my best friends that I have no idea how I lived without.

As Logistics, I get to work with my team to pick out all of the decor- from flowers to food to furniture. I also do a lot of last minute details and make sure everything is in place and ready to go during recruitment week!
Any tips for Recruitment? Trust the process. A lot of times girls get caught up in the whirlwind of the week, and forget that everything happens for a reason! I’m a firm believer that you will end up where you’re meant to be. So go be yourself and follow your heart!
What's your favorite ZTA sisterhood event?
Watching Beauty and the Beast at Alamo Draft House!

Julia Sotelo

Any tips for Recruitment?
Take advantage of your Recruitment Counselors! They have been preparing to guide you through Recruitment all year and only job is to be there for you. These girls have the best advice and have been through the process just like you, so do not be afraid to get to know them!! My Recruitment Counselor is one of my very best friends now and was a huge help during Recruitment to me!
Why did you #GOTEXASZETA?
I #WENTTEXASZETA because from the moment I walked in the doors, I felt loved and welcomed. The girls I talked to genuinely wanted to get to know me just as much as I wanted to get to know them. They were personal and down to earth. I talked to girls with such different personalities but was able to get along with all of them. This is what I love most, feeling welcomed by all of my sisters, enough to have a comfortable conversation with any girl in Zeta, no matter the age or if we have ever talked.

Any tips for Recruitment?
Bring comfy shoes to walk in from house-to-house. The houses are often times far apart and having to speed walk in heels is a nightmare, trust me. Also, HAVE FUN! It sounds like such a cliche, but recruitment is all about getting to meet wonderful women who are going to be with you for the next 4 years!
What's your favorite ZTA sisterhood event?
Definitely the Mario Cart Tournament at game night!

Caroline Cantrell
Position: Assistant Database
Hometown: The Woodlands, TX
Major: Finance - McCombs School of Business
Follow me on insta: @carocantrell
What do you do as Assistant Database?
I help Emily with day-to-day tasks, mostly going through loads of recruitment packets. I love getting to see all of the awesome things that girls have accomplished in high school, it just makes me more excited to meet them during recruitment week!
Any tips for Recruitment?
Tell funny stories, and talk about things that you’re truly passionate about. If you care about it, it’ll show. Don’t be afraid to talk about things that might not fit the typical mold - it’s awesome to hear about what makes you unique. I know “be yourself” sounds cliche- but it really is the best way to find out who you click with.
Fun fact?
My left arm has a donor bone!

Madeleine Ausburn
Position: Star Team Manager
Hometown: San Antonio
Major: Biology
Follow me on insta: @mauzburn
What do you do as Star Team?
I work with a team of Zetas to make sure that each girl who comes to the house has a great experience with the girls that they talk to. We work to ensure that everyone is getting involved in the process and that everyone has a good time doing it!
Any tips for Recruitment?
If something doesn’t go as planned, don’t worry about it! Everyone experiences little mishaps here and there and it is these “embarrassing” stories during recruitment that will make for great stories later on!
What’s something that a stranger wouldn’t know about you?
When I was younger, I taught myself to be ambidextrous!

Clara Cable
Position: Assistant Logistics - Decor Team
Hometown: Austin, TX
Major: Public Relations
Follow me on insta: @claracable
What do you do as Assistant Logistics?
I assist Cara and Julia when it comes to designing and making sure every little thing is perfect for recruitment week!  It is so rewarding to see all of our hard work during the design process come to life!
Any tips for Recruitment?
Don’t overthink it. Recruitment week can be super stressful, but if you be yourself and keep an open mind you’ll find your home. Don’t get caught up in the drama of the week, it’s not worth it when you could be spending that time making friends and having a good time!
Why did you #GOTEXASZETA?
I went Zeta because from the beginning to the end of recruitment week, I felt most comfortable stepping into the house and getting to talk to amazing girls I could see being my sisters. Zeta had a strong sense of sisterhood and support that I knew would come in handy during my first year at UT, and it did. Best decision ever!
