Where to go in Austin...

Where to go in Austin to…

Hi! I’m Macey Sterry in PC’17 and I want to share a few of my favorite places in Austin! Going to school in a big city like Austin can seem a little overwhelming with all the sites to see. Although there are countless places to enjoy, I have chosen a few of my favorites to share with you!

Enjoy Nature!

Anytime you need a break from studying, Barton Creek Greenbelt is the perfect escape. With a trail that follows along the river, the Greenbelt is a great place to go on a run or a walk with friends. And for all the dog lovers out there, you will see lots of Austin locals walking their dogs along the trail!
The Lady Bird Lake rowing dock is another place to spend a beautiful day in Austin. You can rent a kayak or stand up paddleboard and paddle along the lake. Whether it be racing your friends or relaxing in nature, this spot is guaranteed fun! Paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake is the perfect activity for my friends and I to cool off and have a great time!

One of my favorite ways to either start or end the day is watching the Austin sunrise and sunset. You can hike up to Mount Bonnell for sunset or try catching the sunrise on the Austin 360’ bridge (Pennyback Bridge). In both spots there is plenty of space to sit and enjoy the silence as the pink and orange skies fade to blue. Make sure you have a jacket to wear - and a blanket to sit on!

Grab a Bite!

All of the great activities in Austin can work up an appetite, good thing amazing restaurants in Austin are endless. I am going to tell you about three of my favorite places. They each have a great atmosphere and delicious food, making them places to check out when you get here!

Cabo Bob’s

Their menu varies with options consisting of bowls, tacos, burritos, salads and more. The line may be a little long sometimes but the workers get it moving fairly quickly, so don’t let the wait deter you. The best thing about Cabo Bobs, second to the food of course, is it’s location, it is super close to campus which makes it an easy stop!

Red Ash

Longhorn’s Chicken

This food truck serves chicken tenders, mash potatoes, and chicken with waffles. Take a stop by this food truck if you are looking for some great southern comfort food!

Study With A Nice Cup of Coffee:

Mozart’s Coffee
My all time favorite coffee shop is Mozart’s Coffee. Located right on Lake Austin, Mozart’s atmosphere is an attraction on its own. The best time of year to visit this location is in the winter around Christmas time. The entire coffee shop is lit up with Christmas lights! Mozart’s is a must for the holiday season and the perfect place to study outside on a nice day.

Bennu Coffee

If you are looking for a quieter atmosphere for coffee and homework, Bennu Coffee is the place. I go here with my Zeta sisters to escape distractions and focus on our studies. I recommend getting to Bennu Coffee early because it tends to fill up quickly, especially during finals season!

I hope these recommendations are helpful when planning your outings in Austin! It is easy to get comfortable staying on campus, but I think it is important to take the time to venture out and get to know the great city of Austin - because it truly is the best!! Hook’em and #GOTEXASZETA

Love,
