A typical Zeta State Fair meal! |
It’s the week we have been waiting for all year: the week before TEXAS/OU weekend. Seriously…what could be better than fun with friends, Texas football, and eating ever-famous fried foods? Not to mention that there is no bigger rivalry than that between the renowned Texas Longhorns and the...Sooners. Every Zeta at the University of Texas looks forward to this weekend all year long.
From the
Torchlight Parade, cooler painting, packing, and pampering, (all in the middle
of midterms!) the week leading up to the Texas/OU game in Dallas is one of the most
hectic weeks for Zetas at UT. However we always take a little bit of time on
the Wednesday before OU to come together as sisters! So every year, the
Wednesday before the game, Texas Zeta holds an event at our house that we like
to call the “Zeta State Fair”. At the
“Zeta State Fair” we turn our sorority house into our own version of Big Tex
and the fried creations that are in Dallas. In anticipation of the game and the
Texas State Fair, we exchange favors with their dates (t-shirts, PFGs,
stickers, etc.) and also eat a yummy state fair themed meal! We pigged out on
all the goodies Chef Holly made that make eating at the state fair so fun! From
corndogs to curly fries, frito pies to fried Oreos, after leaving I felt like I
gained 10 pounds in one sitting!
Little get
togethers like these are little events that make being a Zeta so fun and really
bring us together as a chapter. Even
carving just an hour or two out of our busy week to be around good friends (and
great food), relaxes everyone and helps get everyone super excited for the
upcoming weekend! The Wednesday before OU is the perfect beginning to a fun
weekend, following traditions that have been held at UT for many years!
Guess what?
It’s Thursday and OU STILL SUCKS! Hook ‘em Horns!
ZLAM!
